Sony PS3 Consoles Lacks of Backward Compatibility Features to Play PS2 Games

It is always crucial to ensure backward compatibility when a manufacturer planning to develop a next generation product so that existing system can be guaranteed to still fully functioning with the new product specification. However, this practice may be discontinued by Sony on its famous Playstation generation. For those that still carry PS2 games and would need to play it in the next generation Sony PS3 console, they may have to be disappointed since the giant Japanese gaming console maker seems to have no plan to continue the backward compatibility effort on its new consoles including the PS3 Slim version.

If you recall, the earlier version of 20GB and 60GB PS3 consoles still can work with old PS2 disks thanks to its emotion engine chip and graphics synthesizer chips embedded into PS3 consoles that made them compatible to play older games. However, the practice will no longer true after these two models were discontinued and consumers will have to abandon those old games unless they still have old PS2 or first generation of PS3 consoles. According to its spokesperson, there is too much trouble to continue the backward compatibility with additional hardware complexity to be implemented in new console systems. And even with software emulation doesn’t provide a full prove and solid long term solution with additional cost that lead to the decision of canceling backward compatibility, which was used to be one of the advantages over its competitors such as Microsoft’s Xbox consoles.

New Sony PS3 Slim Version Gaming Console Potentially Having 250GB Capacity HDD

Previously we mentioned about the PS3 Slim version that will be reaching consumer space by September timeframe. While the new version capacity has been increased significantly from its current version, if you think this is still not sufficient for storing your favorite games and HD (High Definition) media files, here could be another good news that you may be interested in. A recent unofficial news disclosed that Sony may has applied for FCC approval for its 250GB slim version PS3, which was not announced to public as of now.

The product, named as “Computer Entertainment System” originally was brought to FCC under a company name called “Sand Dollar Enterprise Inc”, but later it was believed to be an unannounced sibling product to the new slim version that is going to be released by Sony by next month. The 250GB will be named as CECH-2000B as a slight different codename of CECH-2000A for 120GB PS3 Slim. While able to reduce the power and physical size significantly, the new version is further enhanced with new feature sets such as a new BRAVIA Sync capability that enables the PS3 XMB control via the HDMI connection with the BRAVIA TV remote control as well as System Standby that can switch off the console when the BRAVIA TV is off.

Although the retail price for 120GB is already fixed at $299, there is still no confirmation on when the 250GB version will be available and how much it will cost. If this is true, users will have more selection on specific models to buy on top of the existing PS3 models that will experience the same price slash to stay competitively in this high end gaming segment.

Download Free Magical Game with Vacuum Magic

There is a sweet satisfaction to Vacum Magic where gamers suck up candy free falling from the sky and spit it at evil bees and other equally menacing creatures. The suction-like vacuum mirrors the baby-like motions of sucking and fulfils Freud’s theory that adults never got enough of it. If you like sucking and spitting, this game is for you. If you’re quick and good at sucking, you can keep poison candy to spit at the evil bees or you can even spit bees at other bees. While shooting may satisfy some primal instinct in males, candy sucking has appealed to both males and females since our post-natal days. Swallowing other supplements to the main staple will give you extra nutrients in the form of a protective shield, special timed challenge rounds and boss fights.

Control keys are easy to master – arrow keys to navigate movement up and down or forward and back. Fire away with the space key if you have swallowed ammunition in the form of candy or bees. Run (change direction) if you have nothing in your mouth! Vacuum magic is fun and simple. This free and open-source game is still in the developmental stage but it is downloadable and runs on Vista. The game needs 128MB RAM and 3-D Video Card

Nintendo Wii Enabled with SDHC Support through System Menu 4.0 Upgrade

While Nintendo Wii is so famous among the game consoles with its sale has exceeded 50 millions globally, there are still some users that are not fully satisfied with it. One of the major issues is the lacking of the huge internal memory storage (only 512MB NAND storage) that cause some inconvenience to those gamers when there is a need to transfer some games to external storage to free up internal storage for new downloads. Good news here, the Japanese game consoles manufacturer has just released a new major System Menu 4.0 updates to enable SDHC cards support up to 32GB.

The software update will bring a new SD card menu GUI that allows users to transfer both files and channels between system internal and external memories. Besides, it also allows the game download directly into SD card without occupying the system memory.

This is definitely an important value added feature to promote greater users’ experience while fixing some of the previous shortcomings without the need to involve major hardware upgrade that could be troublesome and cost consuming. Furthermore, SDHC card is so common now and users can probably grab one of 32GB for less than $40.
